UTUIA ANNOUNCES NEW NAME –
AMERICAN JOURNEY FINANCIAL LIFE (AJFL)

Independence, Ohio, May 1, 2025 — UTUIA, a 156-year-old fraternal benefit society, has announced that the organization will begin operating under the new name, American Journey Financial Life (AJFL).

The organization was originally established in 1868 to provide benevolent and financial support to the widows and orphans of those who perished in the harsh environment of railroad work. When no other insurer would protect workers and their families, they provided financial aid to disabled and discarded workers who, all too often, faced injury and death due to the lack of safety measures. Today, the organization serves its members in all 50 states, providing accident, accidental death and dismemberment, cancer, life insurance and annuities to America’s workforce.

“We are excited about our new name and committed to our mission”, President and CEO, Kenneth Laugel, stated. “We are expanding our insurance offerings while at the same time continuing to provide college and trade school scholarship programs which have helped thousands of our members and their children with the financial burdens that come with the pursuit of higher education. Our organization was founded on the belief that the workers of America should have the financial tools necessary to protect their families, so we were careful to select a name that reflects our desire to honor our history while remaining focused on our future. It’s a name that evokes the story of our American journey, yours and ours, a storied history that spans over 156 years and continues today,” Laugel added.
